Same price

I decided to compare what you can get in Stockholm to what you can get in one of the most northern towns in Sweden – Luleå for the same price.  It turns out that for 680,000 kr (or 84,000 U.S. Dollars) you can get this one-room apartment 20 minutes outside of Stockholm:

Or for the same price ( 84,000 U.S. Dollars) you can get this in Luleå:

So if you’re willing to live in the artic circle, you can really get a deal!

Wednesday update

It looks like we won’t find out anything about the apartments we applied for until Monday at the earliest, so in the meantime we are still checking our usual lists.   Since today is Wednesday, there is a list of new apartments, but nothing for us.  The only 4 room is too expensive – good floorplan though, so that’s too bad.  However, in the neighborhood we like in that line, one building has 5 apartments up this week and another building has one.  Unfortunately, they are all between 2 and 3 rooms which is not big enough for us (we are currently in a 3 room).

So we are still holding out hope that we can get one of the apartments we applied for in the city line.  I’m busy cleaning things out over here just in case.

Is it sticky?

Saw an apartment listed for sale today on Sirapsvägen  (Syrup Street!).  I think I would like to live there just for the funny street name.

For a while, I thought the pictures of the apartment were going to be normal, but the last picture was the one below.  WHY? WHY ? WHY?   A rose?  Is the realtor trying their hand at artsy photos?  What does this have to do with the apartment?  Good soil! Flowers can grow!  Ridiculous.

Suspense

An exciting weekend.  We applied for 2 apartments in a new building in Enskededalen.  It will be another week until we find out anything.  The cut-off date to apply was yesterday and we are number 2 on one apartment and number 4 on the other.   The people ahead of us have applied for more than one apartment, so if they decide on a different one, then we’re in!

Here is an artist’s rendition of the building we applied for.  We applied for the big building in the back of the picture.  Again, this is one of those fantasy “look how peaceful your neighborhood could be” pictures that they like to draw when they build new apartments.   I can already tell you that the buildings are gray, not blue and there is a sort-of busy street in back of the big building.  So the building is not hidden in the forest as the picture would have you believe.  Also, who are these people walking down the sidewalk?  They look suspicious to me:

Right on the golf course

Yesterday I was looking at an apartment in a neighborhood I’m not too familiar with.  I think it used to be an industrial area but they are trying to build apartments there now.   Besides pictures of the apartment, there were pictures of the surrounding area.  In this case, I think it would have been better to just write “close to mini golf course” instead of showing a picture.   They couldn’t find a better photo?

Not so fancy after all

I decided to find the most expensive apartment I could on the list of apartments for sale in Stockholm and this is what I found.   The apartment is only 6 rooms and cost 15,900,000 SEK  (1.93 million dollars).  There was a hefty monthly rental fee on top of that too.   The pictures of the apartment were nice, but not the fanciest I’ve seen on here.  What you are paying for is the address.  It’s the most expensive street in town.  I think there are some Abbas and Roxettes on that street.

Anyway, here’s a picture of the kitchen.  Nice, but nothing special.  The part that bugged me was the cinnamon buns on the counter.  What’s the point of that?

1.  I can’t smell the cinammon buns, that’s only for showings and not for photos.

2. Is this supposed to show me that the kitchen is functional?  I happen to know there’s a cheap tourist cafe across the street from this place where you could buy those for 10 kr, so I’m not going to believe they made those.

3. Does it represent something I’m not thinking of?  Look at us, we’re good wholesome Swedish people, we eat cinammon buns!  Well, if our apartment were on this site, I’d have to leave out some beef jerky or take out pizza.

4.  Isn’t it really poor hygiene?  Do they always leave food laying around their house when they are out?  There might be bugs in there.  I can’t take that risk.

A little fixer-upper

I found a bargain yesterday on the apartments for sale in Stockholm.  This one is only 735000 SEK  (or 90,000 U.S. Dollars).  It needs a little work.

Yes, the apartment situation here is so bad that they take old storage space in attics, sell it for 90,000 U.S. Dollars, and you can fix it into your own apartment.   However, I think the cages and locks might come in handy if you are a family with kids:

The Wednesday update

There are no 4 room apartments at all today on the list that comes out each Wednesday.  Very depressing.

And in city line news, there is nothing new for us, but on the 2 apartments we applied for weeks ago, we are number 74 and number 80!  So if 73 or 79 people decide they don’t want it, we’re in!

Bleh.
